Alex Cuschieri is a founder of Calamatta Cuschieri and heads the Investments board. Apart from his Directorship responsibilities, Mr Cuschieri focuses his energy in providing his personalised and experienced investment advice to clients and is one of the Malta’s most experienced Investment Managers.
Mr Cuschieri was instrumental in helping the company achieve tremendous growth and increase market share by transforming it from a ‘family concern’ into one of the leading firms in the Maltese financial services industry.
Mr Cuschieri served on the Board of Directors of Mid-Med Bank plc from 1996 to 1999, and was nominated by the government and elected by shareholders in alternate years.
Mr Cuschieri commenced his career as a banker in 1969 joining Barclays Bank DCO and subsequently with Mid-Med Bank plc. During his promising career with Mid-Med Bank, Mr Cuschieri held managerial posts both at Branch Level and at Head Office where his flair in the field of finance was recognised at the Bank’s Treasury Department. He also left his mark at the Bank’s Human Resources Department with his distinguished communication skills. In the 1990s Mr Cuschieri was a regular contributor to the financial press and hosted Malta’s most popular financial radio programme, ‘Haddem Flusek Sew’, for 9 years. Mr Cuschieri is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London [ACIB].
Co-CEO, Head of Operations & Business Development
Alan Cuschieri is a Co-CEO and is part of the company’s management team where he focuses on strategic business development.
He is responsible for the overseeing the daily operations of the company as well as the development and execution of the firm’s goals. He works in close partnership with the Management Board to ensure that the firm delivers best-in-class service to clients.
Mr. Cuschieri was responsible for the opening of the Qormi Branch (2009), Calamatta Cuschieri’s upgrade to a Category 3 licence (2009), the founding of Calamatta Cuschieri Fund Services (2010) the upgrade of the company’s IT infrastructure (2010), the founding of Calamatta Cuschieri Investment Management (2011), the development of CC WebTrader™ & the company’s new website (2012), the launch of CC Momentum Savings plans (2013), the launch of the Calamatta Cuschieri Cancer Foundation and the launch of the CC Equity Fund in 2014.
Mr. Cuschieri joined the company in 1998 and was elected to the Executive Board of Directors on the 9th May 2007. Before assuming his current responsibilities, Mr. Cuschieri provided investment advice and was responsible for the successful implementation of an ambitious modernisation project in 2003. He began his career at Calamatta Cuschieri as a Trader for Fixed Income and Equity Instruments.
Mr. Cuschieri also sits on the board of the Calamatta Cuschieri Funds SICAV plc.
Mr Cuschieri graduated from the University of Bournemouth (UK) and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Financial Services. He also obtained an International Capital Markets Certification from the London Securities Institute (ICMQ). He is passionate about innovation and achieving excellence in customer service.
Co-CEO, Head of Investment Services
Nick Calamatta is a Co-CEO and is part of the company’s management team where he focuses on group strategy. He is responsible for coordinating the firm’s Investment Services and sits on the main Investment Committee of the group.
Mr. Calamatta joined Calamatta Cuschieri in 2005. During his first 9 years with the company, he provided personalised investment advice and wealth management services to a large number of clients.
He was appointed director of Calamatta Cuschieri Co Ltd in 2007.
Milestones in his career to date include being involved in the re-branding and launching of the new corporate identity in 2007, the launch of the Calamatta Cuschieri Funds SICAV plc in 2011 of which he is also a Director, the setting up of the Capital Markets team where he has assisted with the launch of a number of IPO issues in Malta and the group restructuring in 2014.
Mr. Calamatta also sits on various Investment committees and board of third party hedge funds.
Mr. Calamatta holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Financial Services from the University of Bournemouth (UK). He is specialised in Wealth Management as well as being passionate about economics and current affairs.
Chris Saliba is an executive director on the Calamatta Cuschieri Group of companies.
He was elected to the Executive Board of Directors in September 2003. Mr Saliba directs the finance team and sits on the company’s main Investment Board. Mr. Saliba is one of the Malta’s most distinguished Investment Managers and provides investment advice to clients. Mr. Saliba is also a director on Calamatta Cuschieri Funds SICAV plc.
Mr Saliba joined Calamatta Cuschieri as a Financial Controller in April 1994 where he re-structured the finance department and re-organised the company’s internal procedures and controls.During the booming local market period between 1994 and 1998, Mr Saliba was responsible for the firm’s trading on the Malta Stock Exchange. Throughout those years Mr Saliba furthered his studies, becoming a qualified Investment Advisor and in 2001 he was appointed General Manager for the firm.
Prior to joining Calamatta Cuschieri, Mr Saliba held the post of Assistant Financial controller at the Malta Freeport as well as Management Accountant with Marsovin Ltd. Mr Saliba is an Associate member of the UK’S Institute of Accountancy Technicians. He also holds an International Investment Advice Certificate (IIAC) from the London Securities Institute.
Managing Director CCFS & CCIM
Michael Galea is the Managing Director of Calamatta Cuschieri Investment Management Ltd (CCIM) and Calamatta Cuschieri Fund Services Ltd (CCFS).
Having been at the helm of the Company since its inception in 2011, Michael oversees the daily operations of the Company and is the clients’ first point of contact on all matters. He currently sits on a number of committees & boards within the Calamatta Cuschieri Group as well as for clients covering the areas of investments, portfolio management & risk management.
Prior to joining Calamatta Cuschieri, where he also set up and ran the Treasury Department for a number of years, Mr. Galea was Head of Markets & Investments of a local wealth management Bank where he was directly responsible for all areas relating to international financial markets & treasury operations. Mr. Galea also has a background in corporate finance having worked with one of the Big Four audit firms.
Mr Galea holds a B.Com (Hons) Banking & Finance degree as well as a Masters in Business Administration, both from the University of Malta.
